Cleveland Clinic has been taking some heat for its decision to close the trauma unit at East Cleveland’s Huron Hospital, but such flaps are nothing new to the celebrated health system.

Cleveland Clinic’s Huron Hospital is losing its trauma center in a move that concerns some East Side residents but that the Clinic says will strengthen the city’s healthcare system.

A sale of Youngstown’s Forum Health, which is reorganizing under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, to Nashville, Tenn., hospital system Ardent Health Services hinges on successful negotiations with unions representing about 3,500 Forum workers, unnamed sources told the Tribune Chronicle.

HealthGrades, the independent health-care ratings organization, has named eight Ohio hospitals to its America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2009 list. Hospitals named to the list “represent an elite group of the highest-performing health care organizations in the nation,” HealthGrades says.
