ELYRIA, Ohio — EMH Regional Healthcare System has tapped Dr. Donald Sheldon as interim chief operating officer.
Dr. Sheldon will lead the Elyria, Ohio-based, health care system while a national search is conducted to replace late President and Chief Executive Kevin Martin, EMH said in a written statement.
Martin passed away last week from cancer.

Sheldon has been vice president of medical affairs for the growing regional health care system since 1998. He is board certified in family medicine and is a Certified Physician Executive.
Before that, Sheldon was director of emergency medicine and medical director for Community Health Partners in Lorain.
Sheldon has been a volunteer physician at the Lorain County Free Clinic since its 1986 inception. He is the clinic’s medical director and has been a director for the clinic for several years.
“I have complete confidence in Dr. Sheldon’s ability to lead the organization during this transition period,” said Kevin Flanigan, chairman of Comprehensive Healthcare of Ohio, EMH’s parent, in the statement.
