Pittsburgh life sciences development group adds new executives

Economic development group Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse has added three executives who will provide expertise and advice to the area’s health care start-ups.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — Economic development group Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse has added three executives who will provide expertise and advice to the area’s health care start-ups.

The PLSG, which also invests capital into area companies, has appointed Maureen Peszko and Michael Lang as executives in residence. Pierre E. Queiroz de Oliveira has joined the group as an executive associate.

“The world-class caliber of our executive program and the extensive background of our [executives in residence] continue to build on our national reputation for attracting world-class talent to the region and building great life sciences companies,” said John Manzetti, PLSG’s chief executive.

Peszko has a background in senior management in health care information technology. Most recently, she was senior vice president of strategy, product development, government affairs and business development at Sage Health Care.

Lang has 27 years of executive experience in the medical devices industry. He has a background in general management, strategic business development, fund-raising, marketing, product development and biomedical engineering. Most recently he was president of Galt Medical, a Dallas-based cardiovascular products company.

De Oliveira will focus on the therapeutics segment. He has experience in pharmacology and drug discovery and was selected as a fellow in molecular pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh.

PLSG was founded in 2001 by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University.
