Minnesota

Dan Haugen is the Twin Cities editor for MedCityLife.com. He has written about Twin Cities medical innovators for a variety of publications, including The Line, MinnPost.com and Twin Cities Business magazine. As a freelance journalist, he covers business and technology in the Twin Cities, with an emphasis on startups and growing companies. He lives in Northeast Minneapolis with his wife Amy and their two West Highland terriers, Oscar and Archie. After five, you’re most likely to bump into him in downtown Minneapolis or at a neighborhood pub close to home. His favorite spots to eat include Sen Yai Sen Lek, the Anchor Fish & Chips and Crescent Moon Bakery. On the weekends, his favorite nightlife locations include First Avenue, the 331 Club, and the Turf Club. And in the summer you’ll find him a few times a month cheering on the Minnesota Twins from the cheap seats at Target Field.

Arundhati Parmar (aparmar @ medcitynews.com) is the Minnesota Bureau Chief for MedCityNews.com. She specializes in business reporting and her career has taken her from a small high tech publication in California to a newspaper in Indiana. She also worked at two Crain publications in Chicago before deciding to go freelance. Prior to joining MedCity News, she was an economic development reporter and medical technology reporter at Finance & Commerce, a business daily based in downtown Minneapolis. Arundhati was born and raised in Kolkata (previously Calcutta), India. She has a degree from all the three continents she has ever lived in: a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Jadavpur University in Kolkata, a master’s in English literature from University of Sydney, Australia; and a master’s in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University in Chicago. She has made a solemn vow never to step inside a classroom again.

North Carolina

Whitney Howell is the Research Triangle Park editor for MedCityLife.com. She writes about the medical and science scene in the Research Triangle Park for several publications, including the Raleigh News & Observer. She is a freelance journalist, covering healthcare, medical innovation, science, and technology for Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and the surrounding areas. She lives in Southwest Durham with her husband Evan and their two children. During her off hours, you’ll likely find her at the Museum of Life & Science traipsing around the dinosaur trail or at the pub or sushi restaurant not far from her house. She’ll never turn down a chance to eat at Raleigh’s Tir Na Nog, Durham’s Thai Caf , or Carrboro’s Carrburritos. On a kid-free night, you’ll find her at the West 94th Street PUB, City Beverage, or Alivia’s. When it’s summer, she can be spotted cheering for the Durham Bulls, the team made famous in the movie Bull Durham.

Frank Vinluan (fvinluan @ medcitynews.com) is the North Carolina Bureau Chief for MedCityNews.com. He joins the company from the Triangle Business Journal in Raleigh, N.C. where he was a staff writer covering life sciences, technology and energy for the Journal’s print edition and website. He has also worked for The Des Moines Register and The Seattle Times, primarily covering business news. He has a master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois Springfield and a bachelor’s degree in history from Carleton College.

Ohio

Jen Boyer is the Cleveland editor for MedCityLife.com. She specializes in writing about healthcare and the medical industry, providing marketing content and consumer health information for the nation’s largest health insurer and Walk With a Doc, a Columbus-based non-profit. She lives on Cleveland’s West side with her husband, four kids, and a menagerie of assorted furry creatures. Cleveland favorites include the Metroparks, Pickwick & Frolic, and the Lake Erie Monsters.

Brandon Glenn (bglenn @ medcitynews.com) is the Ohio Bureau Chief for MedCityNews.com. He has worked for Medical Economics and as a staff reporter for Crain’s Chicago Business and Crain’s Cleveland Business, where he covered biotechnology, venture capital and information technology. He holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Purdue University.

Diana Jack (djack @ medcitynews.com) is a social media intern at MedCity Media, and maintains the company’s Twitter and Facebook accounts. She is studying German and International and Area Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. Diana has done graphic design, writing and social media for Life Skills in St. Louis, her junior class council, and Shaker Heights High School’s newspaper, The Shakerite.

Jane Levesque (jlevesque @ medcitynews.com) is production manager for content services at MedCity Media. She brings 10 years of experience in editing and managing the production of economic development magazines at American Images Publishing in Erie, Pennsylvania. Prior to her editing and production work, she was a staff writer for two daily newspapers in Ohio: The Star-Beacon in Ashtabula and then The Daily Record in Wooster.

Ken Montgomery (kmontgomery @ medcitynews.com) is business development director in MedCity Media’s Ohio office, responsible for Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and East Coast sales. He previously has experience in business to business sales and the healthcare industry. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mount Union.

Deanna Pogorelc (dpogorelc @ medcitynews.com) is a content intern at MedCity Media. After earning a bachelor’s degree in magazine journalism from Ball State University, she covered education and business news for a daily newspaper in rural northeast Indiana. More recently, she taught newswriting at Ohio University while working on her master’s degree in journalism.

Tyler Taylor (ttaylor @ medcitynews.com) is a business development and marketing intern at MedCity Media. She will be graduating in 2012 from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She also lead business development for an international business organization called AIESEC which is the largest student run organization in the world.
