TEDMED organizer Jay Walker closed out the 2012 conference with a mild bombshell. He told the remaining attendees that he is forming an exploratory committee to explore the viability of a “world’s fair” for medical innovation that would be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The announcement was almost a throw-away few sentences in a lengthy and passionate speech closing TEDMED 2012 in which Walker wove all the TEDMED talk topics together into one narrative and outlined his own vision for the purpose of the conference. There were few details about the world’s fair concept, other than he would create the committee to review whether the project was viable. A press representatives there were no more details to share at this point.
Walker could very well involve many of the top TEDMED sponsors in such a committee. In that case, they would come from the likes of Siemens, Johnson & Johnson, Cleveland Clinic and Philips, among others.
