Last week a Mayo Clinic physician described the strategy behind the hospital’s new Mall of America retail location calling it a laboratory to provide crowdsourced ideas that can help inform the creation of a permanent facility focused on health and wellness.

Now that “Create Your Mayo Clinic Health Experience” has formally launched to the public, the initial task will be in communicating to the public what the store is all about. What appeared to be a mother and daughter walked in confidently, stopped and walked right back out. Others who strayed in during the lunch hour were immediately attended to by the so-called “healthcare experience navigator.” And there was evidence that some of the tech tools inside the store would capture a young person’s attention – two children who briefly played with the augmented reality kiosks before leaving with presumably their mother.

Here are a few videos of the place that provide a glimpse into the interior and what Mayo is trying to achieve.

The first video is of a brief look at the physical space itself:

The second video is a hint of things to come in terms of the kind of merchandise available. James Yolch, administrator of the Mall of America project, describes a product for sale.

In the third video, Yolch provides a demonstration of an augmented reality kiosk that provides information about the heart and the Mayo Clinic Symptom Checker.

The fourth and final video is an interview with Elizabeth Blaschko, health experience navigator and program manager. She greets people walking in the store and is qualified in health and wellness matters. She also manages a separate space at the Mall of America launching in a few weeks where some clinical tests around health and wellness will be offered for a price.
