A business incubator on Ohio University’s campus is opening section that will include biotechnology support and other components.

The Ohio University Innovation Center‘s new biotech research and development facility will feature “state-of-the-art instrumentation and research equipment for chemical and biomedical analysis,” according to the university.

The new biotech expansion is intended for use by OU faculty, staff and students, incubator clients, researchers at area colleges and universities, and private industry. It was funded by OU and the state.

The Innovation Center was created in 1983 and moved into its current 36,000-square-foot space in 2003. It’s home to two biotech companies, drug developers Interthyr and MetalloPharm. Another drug developer, Promiliad Biopharma, is an “affiliate member.”

OU is holding a grand opening event for the new R&D center Wednesday.
