Steris looking to hire 100 in Ohio over next few months, 300 in coming years

Sterilization products maker Steris Corp. (NYSE: STE) is hosting a “virtual career fair” with the hopes of hiring about 100 workers for its Mentor, Ohio, headquarters. Sterilization products maker STERIS (NYSE: STE) is hosting a “virtual career fair” with the hopes of hiring about 100 workers for its Mentor, Ohio, headquarters.

Most positions STERIS has listed appear to be in customer service, though there are also openings in plenty of other areas: engineering, regulatory affairs, and training and development, for example.

The reason behind the hiring binge of sorts stems from STERIS’ plans to close an Erie, Pennsylvania, facility and move the jobs to Mentor, which is about 20 miles east of Cleveland. Of the roughly 200 positions being transferred, roughly half of the people holding the positions plan to relocate or commute, spokesman Stephen Norton said.

The company plans to add about 300 positions in Mentor in the coming years as a result of the Erie closing and the creation of a  Customer Solutions Center, Norton said. STERIS employs about 5,300 people worldwide.

STERIS is planning to open the Customer Solutions Center on its Mentor campus later this year. STERIS plans to invite potential customers to the center to view models of hybrid operating rooms for hospitals and surgical centers. STERIS makes the lights, tables, booms and communications equipment for the rooms that accommodate surgical and imaging procedures at the same time.

After completion of the 55,000-square-foot Customer Solutions Center, STERIS will invite clients to the center to show off their design skills.
