Robert Pozen, the chairman of MFS Investment Management and a board member at Medtronic Inc., is said to be mulling a run for the U.S. Senate.
Robert Pozen, a member of the board of directors at Minneapolis medical device giant Medtronic Inc. (NYSE:MDT) may be mulling a run at the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Scott Brown (R-Mass.), according to press reports.
Pozen, who is retiring his post as chairman as MFS Investments, is said to be considering the run in 2012, according to the The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald. Neither paper could confirm with Pozen personally.
Pozen, a board member at Medtronic since 2004, is a registered Democrat but served in former Gov. Mitt Romney’s (R-Mass.) cabinet as secretary of economic affairs for one year. He also worked at Fidelity Investments and teaches at the Harvard Business School.
The Herald noted that Pozen’s substantial personal wealth made him a viable candidate, but said he may be lacking in the “charisma department.”
“He could make Martha Coakley look like Lady Gaga by comparison,” wrote columnist Joe Battenfield.
