Ex-national security advisor replaces governor-elect at Invacare

General James L. Jones, a recently retired national security advisor to President Obama, has joined the board of Invacare Corp. (NYSE:IVC), replacing departing Ohio Governor-elect John Kasich.

General James L. Jones, a recently retired national security advisor to President Obama, has joined the board of Invacare Corp. (NYSE:IVC), replacing departing Ohio Governor-elect John Kasich.

Jones’ appointment to Elyria, Ohio-based Invacare’s board is effective Dec. 1, according to a statement for the company.

Jones was appointed as national security advisor to Obama in January 2009 and recently retired from the post. Previously, he held the positions of supreme allied commander of NATO and commander of the U.S. European Command.

Jones had been an independent member of Invacare’s board from March 2007 to January 2009, stepping down when he was asked to take the position as national security advisor, according to the statement.

“As Invacare continues to increase its focus on global sourcing and sales, it will benefit greatly from General Jones’ extensive international experience and from the leadership qualities he exhibited as the United States National Security Advisor,” Invacare Chairman A. Malachi Mixon said.

On Monday, Invacare announced that Mixon would step down from his seminal role as CEO and hand the reins to Gerald Blouch. Blouch has worked at Invacare since 1990 and served as the company’s interim CEO since Mixon suffered a minor stroke in April.
