Akron Children’s hires CIO; moves ahead with electronic records

Akron Children’s Hospital has hired a chief information officer to oversee information technology for its growing system.

Tom Ogg comes to Akron Children’s from Oakwood Healthcare Systems in Dearborn, Michigan where he was corporate director and chief technology officer. The Oakwood system includes four acute teaching hospitals and 40 primary care/specialty care sites.

Prior to that, Ogg was a manager at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso, and the Sparrow Health System in Lansing, both in Michigan.

“For 20 years, Tom Ogg has successfully managed the IT programs and implementations of several large hospital systems in Michigan, and Akron Children’s will benefit from his expertise, especially as we continue to transition to electronic medical records,” said Grace Wakulchik, chief operating officer for the Akron, Ohio system, in a release.

Akron Children’s system cares for more than 500,000 children and adults each year in more than 80 locations, including two pediatric hospitals in Akron and Boardman, and 17 primary care offices throughout Northeast Ohio.
