Night Read (Ohio): Wright State University building $22M neuroscience center

Boonshoft School of Medicine logoWright State University in Dayton plans to build a $22 million state-of-the-art center to make the university a national leader in neuroscience research, and Premier Health Partners plans to provide $4.3 million over five years to create a department of neurology at Wright State’s Boonshoft School of Medicine, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Two biomedical companies were among 10 companies attracted to Northeast Ohio by Team NEO last year, according to the organization’s release. AIM Pharmakon of New Jersey, is creating 40 jobs (pdf) by opening a research, development and manufacturing facility in Cleveland to make its drugs and dietary supplements, and MDG Medical Inc., maker of automated drug dispensing systems, created 20 jobs when it moved to Aurora from Beachwood this month.

Kent State University has named Mark A. James, professor and vice chair of the Department of Tropical Medicine at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, as the founding dean of KSU’s College of Public Health, effective July 1, according to a university release.

Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic report the identification of a protein that may be a target for brain cancer therapy, according to RedOrbit. The report was published in open-access journal PLoS Biology.

Meridian Bioscience is testing the molecular test market, according to the Business Courier of Cincinnati.
