Medtronic‘s chief executive has been elected a fellow by the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering for outstanding achievement in the field.
Bill Hawkins, also Medtronic’s chairman, attended a formal induction ceremony at the Institute’s annual meeting earlier this week in Washington, D.C., according to a statement from Medtronic.
The Institute’s elected fellows consist include some of the industry’s most imaginative and distinguished bioengineers, according to the statement.
Hawkins joined Medtronic in 2002 and ascended to the CEO position five years later. He has nearly 35 years’ experience in the medical devices industry.
On Tuesday, Medtronic upped its 2010 profit forecast when it released its third-quarter financial information. Hawkins said he’s pleased with the flurry of new technologies the company will roll out over the next few years, calling it Medtronic’s most robust product pipeline ever.
