Cardinal Health adds former Schering-Plough executive to board

Carrie Cox most recently was an executive vice president with Schering-Plough Corp. and left the company last month after it was acquired by Merck & Co.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Cardinal Health has appointed to its board a former Schering-Plough executive with 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

The appointment of Carrie Cox, 52, is effective immediately. She most recently was an executive vice president with Schering-Plough Corp. and left the company last month after it was acquired by Merck & Co., according to a statement from Cardinal.

Fortune Magazine named Cox to its list of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” six times, according to Cardinal.

Cardinal is filling board seats vacated as a result of its spin-off of device company CareFusion. The spin-off cut into Cardinal’s first-quarter earnings and contributed to its $38 million loss for the quarter.
