The downtown main focus is $$$, not a medical mart, and not a convention center. IF you want to achieve the goal fast and much cheaper, place the Medical Mart inside the IX Center (interior remodeling).

The IX Center is over 1 million square feet. Its centrally located in the County (remember its a county tax not a City of Cleveland tax that is paying for it). It can be connected to the CLE airport and RTA Rapid via an elevated monorail system (federal infrastructure funding), The monorail can be connected to new hotels (Disney World style) at no cost to taxpayers on available land adjacent to the IX Center. Remember, most of the Medcial Mart visitors will be arriving at the airport, requiring only a 2-3 minute ride on the monorail to their hotel and then Medical Mart.

Access to night life and restaurants would be via the monorail to the CLE airport then the RTA Rapid to Tower City without ever having to go outside in the Northern Ohio weather or having to hail a cab. A short cab or bus ride down Euclid Avenue from Tower City is the Playhouse Square Area. You could also include the new casino in this entertainment mix.

The real advantage is we could have the Medical Mart up and running in one years time. This also makes sense from a sustainability point of view, I.E. reuse of the IX Center, and public transportation.

[...] Developers from the Cleveland and Nashville projects have repeatedly said that the first medical mart to open would enjoy a significant advantage over its competitors. Industry experts doubt whether the nation can support more than one medical mart. “Being first is a key element to victory,” Bill Winsor, president of the company that’s developing Nashville’s medical mart, said earlier this year.
This is a great comparison of the race that is on between Cleveland and Nashville. It is amazing to get a glimpse into what is going on behind the scenes.
