Cornhole’s time has come: 4 p.m. today at Edgewater Park

MedCity News Cornhole TournamentThe medical community’s elite athletes gather at 4 p.m. this afternoon for the first annual MedCity News Medical Cornhole Tournament.

We’ve updated the bracket (click to download a pdf version). Early reports from Las Vegas put the teams from Medical Mutual, Hyland Software, Steris Corp. and Cleveland Medical Devices in the Final Four. But University Hospitals is a popular sleeper pick to surprise everyone and win it all.

Also, don’t worry about the weather. The drizzles today are mainly a threat in the early afternoon. Things are looking good come tournament time, and we have both pavilions reserved for cover just in case. The tournament is on rain or shine.

We’ve had some teams drop out and new teams join in, and we currently have two more spots available for teams. So if your health-care organization is interested in playing, contact MedCity News via e-mail, call (216) 453-2662 ext. 107 or come and register at the event.

This is a cornhole tournament — better known as bean bag toss to those outside of Kentucky and Ohio. But it’s also a networking event, so anyone from the health-care industry is welcome to come by, cheer on a team and just enjoy the spectacle. It’s free to attend and participate. The only cost is for onlookers who want some of the hot dogs, hamburgers and other picnic food available. It costs $15 to eat.

Other important details for those playing, attending or just interested.

  • If you can’t come to the event but want to watch the tournament, MedCity News will broadcast the event live. Click here and start watching around 4 p.m. We’ll also broadcast event updates via Twitter.
  • The event begins at 4 p.m., but the tournament won’t start until 4:30 p.m.
  • The cornhole tournament is at upper Edgewater Park. So don’t take the Edgewater Park exit off Route 2. Instead, continue to head west, exit onto Lake Avenue, follow Lake Avenue to the right and enter Edgewater Park by a salmon-colored sign that reads “Cleveland Lakefront State Park/Edgewater Park Area.” Follow that road east almost to its end. You will see a MedCity News banner and eight cornhole sets. Walk that way.
  • Come back to MedCityNews.com on Friday to see video and photos from the event.
