Cardinal Health formally approves planned successor of its CEO

Cardinal Health logoDUBLIN, Ohio — Cardinal Health on Wednesday elected as planned its new chief executive officer, George Barrett, a company vice chairman who lead the healthcare supply chain services segment since January 2008.

Barrett will take his seat on the board of directors and serve as both chairman and CEO at the end of August, when Cardinal finishes its spinoff of CareFusion, a new clinical and medical products business that features Cardinal products for everything from infection surveillance to medication management.

The move completes a division of Cardinal and CareFusion between Barrett and David Schlotterbeck, the other Cardinal vice chairman who lead its clinical and medical products segment.

Current CEO R. Kerry Clark has announced he would leave upon the completion CareFusion’s spinoff.

Also elected with Barrett to the board on Wednesday was Glenn A. Britt, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Time Warner Cable. He will join Oct. 1.
