AKRON, Ohio — Akron Children’s Hospital’s new director of pediatric emergency medicine is a longtime leader in emergency care in Ohio.

Dr. Gregg DiGiulio is leaving his position as chief of the pediatric emergency medicine at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital to take the position in Akron. Before joining University Hospitals in 2006, DiGiulio was the medical director of the emergency department at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

DiGiulio’s duties in Akron will include overseeing emergency medicine at the main campus, two other satellite locations as well as at a new pediatric emergency department that will open this summer in suburban Copley Township. The hospital sees about 70,000 emergency patients a year.

DiGiulio succeeds Dr. Norman Christopher, who is now the chairman of Akron Children’s Pediatrics department.
