COLUMBUS, Ohio — Representatives of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio will continue a multicity tour to discuss the findings of a recent Ohio Family Health Survey.
The institute will meet Wednesday at the University of Cincinnati and then again on Friday in Cleveland at the Visiting Nurses Association. Both events run from 1 to 4 p.m.
Another event is planned on July 8 in Toledo and the institute has already held meetings in Akron and Athens.
The event is free but register to reserve a seat. Each presentation is tailored to its specific geographic area, said Paul Quinn, communications director of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. He explained that one of the survey’s goals was to have a representative sample of each Ohio county.
The presentations cover a lot of ground, including an overview of the 2010-2011 Ohio state budget and its implications for health-related programs, as well as strategies for improving health quality.
The survey, completed in January, included about 51,000 households and covered a range of topics – from questions about health insurance coverage to how respondents would rate their health.
“This survey is really the only source for Ohio policy makers to get solid data,” Quinn said. The institute managed the project, along with the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center, which is housed at The Ohio State University.
Among the survey data: 17 percent of Ohioans aged 18 to 64 – and 4 percent of Ohio children – are uninsured.
Quinn said a smaller follow-up survey will be conducted this fall, in an effort to see what has changed as a result of the economic downturn.
