Entering social media marketing can help "the masses" feel that "the institution" has come closer, and stepped down to their level. I am sure that this could remove a lot of apprehension (or give a false hope/security). I can see how it can help immensely for brand recognition and probably lots more. But it can also get excessive, and out of control if you don't have the resources and heart to be a truly authentic part of the social media world, truly be in the network.
